Lehigh County Pennsylvania Great Allentown Fair Festival

Lehigh County Pennsylvania Great Allentown Fair Festival

For six days at the turn from August into September, the Allentown Fairgrounds become Lehigh County’s agricultural showcase, and the queue title’s extra words point at The Great Allentown Fair. It is an agricultural fair: farm and home exhibits judged inside the Agri-Plex, a midway of rides and games outside it, and a grandstand of concerts, all closing on Labor Day. Secondary layers describe it as one of the oldest fairs in the United States and one of the largest in Pennsylvania, characterisations from those layers rather than rankings asserted here.

About The Great Allentown Fair

The organiser is one body: the fair’s own Mission page states that the Lehigh County Agricultural Society is the nonprofit owner and operator of The Allentown Fairgrounds and The Great Allentown Fair, and its 2026 premium book records the land and structures as owned by members of that Society. The Great Allentown Fair Foundation, named in a July 7, 2026 fair release on a quilt auction benefiting it, is a related foundation in its own layer, never the operator. Penn State Extension and the county 4-H programme run the youth showing, where Extension’s reports show the Society as a livestock sale buyer. The Allentown Symphony Orchestra, the Second Harvest Food Bank and the 2026 day sponsors are performers, partners and sponsors in their layers, never the organiser, and individuals such as the coordinator on the 2026 Fair Queen application are persons only.

The Mission layer measures the grounds at 46 acres in the city’s beautiful west end, at the published address, 302 North 17th Street, Allentown, Pennsylvania 18104. The same address serves as the mailing address on the 2026 Fair Queen application, care of the coordinator, a mailing use rather than a second location, while Gate 7 off Liberty Street is not an address but the parking entrance. Named spaces include the Service Electric Grandstand, the Agri-Plex and Agri-Land. Allentown is both host city and county seat, verified from the Pennsylvania State Archives county courthouses table, which records the county’s creation on March 6, 1812 from Northampton; that 1812 date belongs to the county, never to the fair.

History

The fair’s own Mission page frames the beginning: the Society’s mission was conceived in 1852, and the fair has operated annually for more than a century and a half. A bureau history text sourced from the fair repeats that framing; both layers are characterisation rather than a year by year record, so neither licenses an unbroken run claim. The name forms stay in their layers: The Great Allentown Fair is the modern title, the guide’s Allentown Fair and the Mission page’s The Allentown Fair are layer forms, and Lehigh County Agricultural Fair belongs to the 1852 layer only.

A secondary history, citing the Society’s published history and newspaper accounts, holds the detail. In that account the Society held its first fair from October 6 to 8, 1852, on Livingston’s Lawn, east of Fourth Street, then bought grounds north of Liberty Street, on the Fifth and Sixth Streets side, for the second fair of September 28 to 30, 1853. In 1889 the Society bought the 17th Street land between Chew and Liberty Streets, and in celebration of the new grounds’ opening the fair was renamed The Great Allentown Fair.

For a useful comparison, see the Lebanon County Pennsylvania Area Fair Festival for another county festival.

That layer is plain about the missing years: its years active line runs 1852 to 1861, 1863 to 1916, 1919 to 1941, 1946 to 2019 and 2021 onward, recording gaps in 1862, in 1917 and 1918, from 1942 to 1945, and in 2020. Narrative layers explain two gaps: the Civil War absence of 1862, when the grounds served as a staging site before the 1863 resumption, and Camp Crane, the Army’s wartime use of the grounds in 1917 and 1918; no layer accounts fair by fair for 1942 to 1945, so that reason stays unverified. The modern billings, 173rd in 2025, 174th in 2026 and a guide’s forward 175th for 2027, are billing only, never back calculated into a founding year or total.

What to Expect

Grandstand Nights

No grandstand bill is shared between years. The fair’s own 2026 press record runs: The Four Tops with the Allentown Symphony Orchestra on opening night, Wednesday, September 2; professional wrestling on Thursday, September 3 under a listing layer billing of Stars, Stripes and Slams; Warren Zeiders on Friday, September 4; All Time Low on Saturday, September 5; Local Legends Live on Sunday, September 6 in a secondary guide layer; and the J and J Demolition Derby on Labor Day Monday, September 7 at 5 p.m. The 2025 bill stood on its own: HEART opened Wednesday, August 27, billed in the fair’s March 4, 2025 release after a postponement in the 2024 layers; Alabama followed Thursday, August 28 with Montgomery Gentry; Kane Brown played Friday, August 29; Ace Frehley, Great White and QUIET RIOT shared Saturday, August 30; Gabriel Iglesias performed Sunday, August 31; and the demolition derby closed that edition Monday, September 1. One fair release index line misprints the Iglesias date as Sunday, September 1, a slip against the 2025 calendar.

Exhibits, Livestock and the Agri-Plex

Beneath the concerts sits the fair’s original purpose, summed up in the 2026 bureau layer’s phrase about supporting the achievements of farmers, gardeners, and homemakers. The 2026 premium book organises competition across departments including Youth Under 19, Hay and Grain, Vegetables, Fruits and Nuts, Home Products, Domestics, Art and Photography, and Crafts, with its special categories dressed in red, white and blue for America’s 250th under a secondary guide’s recorded theme of Something Old, Something New, Forever Red, White and Blue. Lehigh County 4-H livestock showing is the standing agricultural programme, and Extension’s reports of the 2025 fair record its members’ awards there, exhibitor evidence for that edition only.

Free Entertainment Around the Grounds

A second tier runs with admission. The fair’s July 23, 2026 release covers the free lineup, and its July 31, 2026 release announced the third annual Scrapple Eating Contest, the ordinal being billing in that layer. The 2025 free grounds slate, as reported from the fair’s release, included Victoria Circus, Butterfly Kingdom and Robinson’s pig paddling porkers, alongside a second annual Scrapple Eating Contest, a first annual Mullet Contest and an Inclusive Day in their own 2025 layers. None of those acts or ordinals travels forward.

Planning Your Visit

When the Fair Runs

The fair’s own press record, the state fair guide and the 2026 visitors bureau layer agree in placing the fair from September 2 to 7, 2026, opening Wednesday from 4 to 10 p.m. and closing Labor Day Monday from noon to 9 p.m. in the bureau layer. The 2025 edition ran August 27 to September 1, with the same Wednesday opening hours and 9 p.m. Labor Day close, in that year’s reportage layer; Extension’s 4-H layer brackets 2024 from August 28 to September 2, in that layer only. For 2027 only the guide’s 175th billing exists.

Admission, Kept by Year

In the 2026 bureau layer, opening night cost five dollars for an adult, or three dollars with a canned food donation for the food bank, with children 12 and under free. Thursday and Friday brought free entry for everyone from noon to 2 p.m., then a ten dollar adult gate with children still free. Saturday, Sunday and Labor Day Monday kept the ten dollar gate; the same layer frees active duty military and veterans all day Sunday for Military Appreciation Day, and senior citizens aged 65 and over with identification all day Monday. In the 2025 reportage layer the regular gate was ten dollars, ages 12 and under were always free, and advance tickets sold at five dollars each through August 27; its free windows also ran Thursday and Friday from noon to 2 p.m., but its military day was Thursday, not Sunday, while seniors were free on Monday in both years, so no special day is carried across years. Grandstand tickets include fair admission in the fair’s own layers, at prices that stay in their years: forty seven dollars for The Four Tops at the fair box office in the 2026 show layer, one hundred nineteen dollars for Kane Brown in the January 2025 release.

Parking, Read Carefully

Lehigh County Pennsylvania Great Allentown Fair Festival

Parking is where the record disagrees with itself. For 2025 the reportage layer is specific: fifteen dollars per vehicle on site at Gate 7, off Liberty Street, thirty dollars for prepaid premium parking booked in advance, and off site lots near the fairgrounds independently operated and expressly not the fair’s. For 2026 the bureau page contradicts itself, its prose putting on site parking through Tunnel Gate 7 at ten dollars per vehicle with prepaid premium parking at thirty dollars, while its events listing prints a premium parking pass at fifteen dollars; the figures stand unmerged and unresolved, and no single 2026 price is asserted. The fair’s own undated accessibility guide, crawled in 2026, prices accessible parking at fifteen dollars, first come, first served, through the Gate 7 entrance, an accessible parking term in its own layer rather than a general price.

Getting There and the Camping Question

Gate 7 off Liberty Street is the parking entrance for the grounds at 302 North 17th Street. On camping the record is plainly empty: no fair side layer publishes a camping rate, a hookup term or any fair week camping provision, so fair camping terms are unverified entire. A secondary recreational vehicle guide remarks that visitors cannot set up camp at the grounds, an outside characterisation rather than a fair rule, noted to explain why no camping is promised here.

A Sample Day at the Fair

Take Friday, September 4, 2026. Arrive at noon, inside the 2026 layer’s free entry window running to 2 p.m. on Friday, and spend the early afternoon inside the Agri-Plex. Check the 4-H livestock showing midday, drift out to the midway, and close with Warren Zeiders and guest Kendal Conrad, the Friday headliners in the fair’s 2026 billing.

How It Compares

The sharpest contrast comes from inside Lehigh County itself. The Schnecksville Community Fair is a different fair in the same county, listed separately in the state fair guide, and a county location alone is never evidence that an event is the Great Allentown Fair; nothing from Schnecksville belongs here. The guide’s other Lehigh Valley fairs sit in Northampton County. The site’s year round Farmers Market, Agri-Plex trade shows and expos and October agricultural education day are grounds activity in their own layers, not fair programme. One bureau page’s stray Pennsylvania State Fair wording is a template error in that page: this is not the state fair, not the January Farm Show in Harrisburg and not the York fair.

Visitor Checklist

  • Read the gate ladder for your year first, because the special free days change between editions
  • Use the Thursday or Friday noon to 2 p.m. free window where the documented year offers one
  • Set your navigation for 302 North 17th Street, Allentown, Pennsylvania 18104
  • Enter parking through Gate 7 off Liberty Street, and treat the 2026 parking figure as unresolved rather than settled
  • Remember that grandstand tickets include fair admission, while the gate alone never includes the concert
  • Bring a canned food donation on opening night in 2026, when it reduced adult admission to three dollars
  • Do not plan on camping at the fairgrounds, because no fair side camping terms are published

Beyond the Fairgrounds

The grounds stay busy when the fair leaves: the Fairgrounds Farmers Market trades on the site, the Agri-Plex hosts trade shows and expos, and a dinner theatre appears in the bureau’s history layer, all with their own dates and terms, all separate from the fair itself.

Why This Fair Matters

The fair matters because it is the Society’s mission made visible: conceived in 1852 in the fair’s own framing to support farmers, gardeners and homemakers, a mission the fair still serves in judged crops and livestock, 4-H showing, baking, needlework and art, with concerts layered on top rather than substituted for it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the Pennsylvania State Fair?

No. The Great Allentown Fair is a county fair run by the Lehigh County Agricultural Society. One bureau page describes the event with Pennsylvania State Fair wording, a template error, and no fact from the state Farm Show in Harrisburg or any other fair is used for this event.

How much does admission cost?

It depends on the edition; the years stay separate here. In 2026, adults paid ten dollars on most days and five dollars on opening night, or three dollars with a canned food donation, with children 12 and under free. In 2025, the regular gate was ten dollars, children 12 and under were free, and advance tickets sold for five dollars through August 27. Neither ladder fills in any other year.

Which day honours military visitors and seniors with free entry?

It changes between editions. In 2026, active duty military and veterans entered free all day Sunday, and senior citizens aged 65 and over with identification entered free all day on Labor Day Monday. In 2025, military visitors were free on Thursday instead, while seniors kept the Monday, so check the current year’s announcement.

Can I camp at the Allentown Fairgrounds during the fair?

No fair side source in this record offers it. The fair’s own layers publish no camping rate, hookup term or fair week camping provision, so camping here is unverified and should not be planned on.

What to Expect From the Next Lehigh County Pennsylvania Great Allentown Fair Festival

How often is Lehigh County Pennsylvania Great Allentown Fair Festival held?

The fair returns once each year for six days in its late August into Labor Day slot, the 2025 edition running August 27 to September 1 and the 2026 edition September 2 to 7, each closing on Labor Day Monday.

When is the next Lehigh County Pennsylvania Great Allentown Fair Festival?

The only forward statement is a secondary guide’s billing that 2027 will mark the 175th Great Allentown Fair. No fair side layer publishes 2027 dates, so the next span stays unverified until the fair announces it.

Will the dates change?

The span drifts slightly. The 2024 span in the Extension layer ran August 28 to September 2, 2025 ran August 27 to September 1, and 2026 ran September 2 to 7, so the Wednesday opening and Labor Day close hold while the calendar dates shift.

The Great Allentown Fair rewards a careful reader: a Society with a mission it dates to 1852, a record that includes its gaps, terms that belong to single years, and six days each summer when the county’s farm work takes over its biggest stage.
