Indiana County Pennsylvania Fair Festival
Every year, as August turns toward September, the borough of Indiana hosts the Indiana County Fair, the county agricultural fair of Indiana County, Pennsylvania. Despite the shared name, it has nothing to do with the state of Indiana or its fairs. The word Festival in the title above is generic; the event’s own name, in every layer of its record, is the Indiana County Fair.

The fair states its purpose plainly: to “promote the growth and improvement of agriculture sciences; educate and provide for the exchange of information between the producers and consumer of food, fiber, and energy.” That wording stands on the fair’s homepage and in its premium book; the week it describes runs to livestock shows, harness racing, a carnival and grandstand action.
About the Indiana County Fair
The fair is organised by the Indiana County Fair Association, the name on the 2023 premium book’s preface and membership list, its vendor contract conditions and its entry-mailing address. Penn State Extension supports only — members enter projects into this fair, per its county 4-H page — an exhibitor and education layer, never the organiser. C&L Shows provides the carnival; the names on schedule days — S&T Bank, Manor Motors, IRMC and others — are day sponsors only.
Indiana is also the county seat, resting on no fair evidence: the Pennsylvania State Archives County Courthouses table lists the seat as Indiana, ZIP code 15701, the county created on March 30, 1803, from Westmoreland and Lycoming — a county date, never a fair date.
Reportage and visitor layers call the grounds the Mack Park Fairgrounds; the park’s own layers shorten it to Mack Park. Both forms stand unmerged, and Mack Park is a grounds name, never a postal address. The fair’s GPS address, in its 2026 schedule and 2023 book alike, is 803 Hospital Road, Indiana, Pennsylvania 15701. The book’s title page pairs the address with P.O. Box 357 in one form; its entry instructions give the Association at PO Box 357, Indiana, PA 15701 — mail only, never the grounds.
For a useful comparison, see the Huntingdon County Pennsylvania Fair Festival for another county festival.
Mack Park passed in 2024 from the J.S. Mack Foundation to Indiana Regional Medical Center — a park layer, not a fair fact, and the county report states the fair will be unaffected, with a permanent home there as long as it is in business. Its pool, ball fields and YMCA programming are park facts too.

A Founding the Fair’s Own Record Does Not State
No founding year or first-fair date appears in the fair’s own current record fetched, so the founding stands unverified as a direct statement.
What the record offers instead is billing. The 2023 premium book heads itself the 160th Indiana County Fair; a university layer calls 2024 the 161st; a county CEO layer speaks of a 162nd year in 2025. Those numbers are billing only; the run is not shown to be continuous, and no founding year — not 1863, not 1864, not any other — may be worked backwards from them.
An older layer survives in a published county history of 1913. There the society’s Saltsburg-road grounds were sold on December 8, 1891 to Silas M. Clark for the Indiana Normal School, for eight thousand six hundred dollars. The same history says thirty-nine acres of new grounds were bought in 1891 from H. M. Lowry and Gamble Fleming, and the first fair on these grounds was held in 1892.
All of that belongs to its 1913 layer and to predecessor grounds. Mack Park is a different, later home — the J.S. Mack Foundation from 1934, the medical center from 2024, both park history — and the layer’s society names, Indiana County Agricultural Society and Indiana Agricultural Society, are never the current organiser’s. The fair keeps its past in view without dating it: a History Exhibit stands in the 2023 book and the 2026 schedule.
What to Expect
The Livestock and Exhibit Heartland
The fair is built first on animals and entries. The 2026 schedule gives the week goat, swine, dairy, draft-horse, sheep, beef and horse shows, behind judging on Saturday, August 29. The premium structure is the 2023 book’s: Departments 1 to 24 — horses, dairy, beef, sheep, floral work, needlecraft and apiary, with poultry and eggs marked canceled for the 2023 fair year — and 4-H and FFA Departments 101 to 118, in that book’s year only.
Faith and Family Day and the Queen
In 2026, Sunday, August 30 is Faith and Family Day: the Fair Queen crowning, sponsored that year by Evergreen Insurance LLC, the Harvest Home Festival church service, the Kid’s Pedal Tractor Pull, the 4-H Rabbit Show and the Antique Motor and Machinery Parade. The Rabbit Show is 2026’s; the 2023 book’s Sunday animal slot was a 4-H Dog Show on August 27, 2023, and neither show may move into the other year’s programme.
Grandstand Nights in 2026
The 2026 schedule builds its evenings around the track: Band Night on September 1; Cheerleading Expo Night, the Cheese Auction and the Milk Chugging Contest on September 3; the Junior Livestock Sale on September 4; and a closing September 5 with a demolition derby at noon and a pull for stock semi, tri-axle and 4×4 trucks. Antique tractor pulls, ATV drag racing and truck and tractor pulls fill their own fenced days. One item belongs to 2025 alone: the America 250 PA Mobile Experiential Unit’s visit on Sunday, August 24, 2025, from 1 to 6 in the afternoon, in its reportage layer only.

The Midway and the Fairground Extras
From Monday through Saturday of the 2026 schedule, C&L Shows runs the carnival rides, expressly not included in gate admission. Around them sit 4-H and open exhibits, the Kiddie Farm, a petting zoo, Jurassic Kingdom, the History Exhibit and the Victoria Circus and Thrill Show. Those names are 2026’s; the 2023 book’s line instead named Circus Incredibles, Jurassic Kingdom Park and the Rock N Roll Pet Show, and the two lists never blend.
Planning Your Visit
Which Days Count as Fair Days
The layers must be kept apart. The homepage announces 2026 as August 28 to September 5; the schedule runs wider — racing on August 27 and 28, the full fair from Sunday, August 30 to Saturday, September 5. The state guide’s entry 48 gives the shorter August 30 to September 5, in its layer only. Reportage puts 2025 at August 24 to 30, and the 2023 book’s judged week ran August 26 to September 2, 2023. A tourism layer’s week-before-Labor-Day billing is general billing only.
Gate Money, Year by Year
The weekday gate is ten dollars in every documented edition. On the 2026 schedule: ten dollars, no refunds, from 2 in the afternoon till close Monday, August 31 through Friday, September 4, and from 10 in the morning on Saturday, September 5; Sunday, August 30 free to the grounds all day; Monday, August 31, Commissioner Day, free for veterans and senior citizens over 65. A separate 2026 line bills Saturday, August 29 at ten-dollar grandstand admission — a grandstand line for the preliminary Saturday, never the gate. Reportage of 2025 shows the same shape — Saturday grandstand ten dollars, a free Sunday, ten dollars from 2 in the afternoon on weekdays; a second reportage layer has admission free until 2 and then ten dollars, including parking and the grandstand in its wording — that layer only. The 2023 book’s preliminary-Saturday grandstand figure was five dollars, its walk around pass five dollars a person per day; both are 2023’s alone.
Parking on the Day

No standalone visitor parking fee is published in the fair’s own record. The terms that exist are the 2023 book’s: park in the space allotted, as directed by police and parking attendants; after 11 in the morning, animal exhibitors park in the area below the hospital reserved for them; handicap parking at the Pavilion Lot and Hospital Parking Lot. Any general price, further lot name or shuttle term is unverified.
Camping: The 2023 Book and Nothing Later
Camping is documented only in the 2023 premium book, in two layers that do not say the same thing and stand here unmerged. Its parking section says all campers and motor homes on the grounds must register during entry week and are available for exhibitors only. Its camping request form, printed twice in the book, prices a standard space at one hundred dollars, 15 feet by 20, and a large space at one hundred seventy-five dollars, no bigger than 18 feet by 40; no vehicles stand on a space. Hookups are electric only, 120 volts and 20 amps; spaces are limited, payment falls in entry week, entries close at 5 in the afternoon on the last entry day, and one space per family is allowed. The form’s checkboxes offer Exhibitor and Other, and that Other box stands unmerged against the parking section’s exhibitors-only wording — neither is resolved here. Concessionaire camping from the concessions manager, two hundred fifty dollars per space, is a concessionaire rate only. No camping term for 2024, 2025 or 2026 appears in any fair-side layer fetched.
A Sample Sunday at the Fair
Plan around Sunday, August 30, 2026, the free-admission Faith and Family Day. Start with the Harvest Home Festival church service. Spend the late morning among the exhibits judged on Saturday, August 29, and at the 4-H Rabbit Show; leave the afternoon for the Kid’s Pedal Tractor Pull and the Antique Motor and Machinery Parade, and end with the Fair Queen crowning. The carnival runs Monday to Saturday, so return on a weekday evening for rides.
Standing Beside Its Neighbours
Indiana County holds more than one fair, and the others are not this one. The Cookport Fair, the state guide’s entry 52, September 14 to 19 at Commodore, and the Ox Hill Community Fair, entry 50, September 6 to 12 at Home, are community fairs. None of their dates, prices or programmes may be merged with this fair’s in either direction.
The wider trap is the state line. The Indiana State Fair at Indianapolis and that state’s county fairs — Spencer County, Jay County and Harrison County among them — share only a word with this fair; their histories, gates and programmes are that state’s, and state-fair copy dressed under this fair’s name in search results is quarantined entire.
Before You Go
- Budget ten dollars a head for a weekday gate from 2 in the afternoon; the carnival rides are not included in that price in the 2026 schedule.
- Navigate to 803 Hospital Road, Indiana, Pennsylvania 15701, and treat P.O. Box 357 as mail only.
- Campers: work from the 2023 book only — no later camping price or rule is published.
Beyond the Fairgrounds
The fair sits inside a borough that is also a county seat. The borough’s courthouse centre, university and ordinary late-summer life continue around fair week, and the park returns to its other roles once the trailers leave. The county’s smaller September fairs at Commodore and Home extend the season on their own terms.
Why the Indiana County Fair Matters
The mission sentence gives the fair’s significance in its own words: a working exchange between the producers and the consumers of food, fiber and energy. Year after year the documented structure holds — harness racing first, a judging Saturday, a free Sunday given to faith and family, then a full competitive week. That a fair can publish a 160th billing while its record declines to name a founding year is not a weakness; it is the record’s honesty.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this fair connected with the Indiana State Fair?
No. This fair belongs to Indiana County, Pennsylvania: it is held in the borough of Indiana at Mack Park and organised by the Indiana County Fair Association. The Indiana State Fair at Indianapolis and that state’s county fairs are separate events; the only connection is the shared word.
How much is admission?
Ten dollars on weekdays: in the 2026 schedule, ten dollars with no refunds from 2 in the afternoon till close, Monday to Friday. Fair week’s Sunday is free all day, and veterans and seniors over 65 are free on Commissioner Day Monday. The 2023 book’s five-dollar walk around pass and five-dollar preliminary-Saturday grandstand figure are that book’s alone; rides are not included, and no child, season-pass or ride price is published.
Can I camp at the fair?
Only on the 2023 premium book’s terms: a standard space at one hundred dollars, a large space at one hundred seventy-five dollars, one space per family. That book’s parking section calls the spaces exhibitors-only while its form offers an Other checkbox, unreconciled here. Nothing for 2024, 2025 or 2026 is published, so treat those figures as history.
When was the Indiana County Fair founded?
The fair’s own current record does not say. The 2023 book bills that edition as the 160th, later layers a 161st and a 162nd year, but billings are not a founding statement and no year may be calculated from them. A 1913 county history records a first fair in 1892 on predecessor grounds bought in 1891 — that layer’s statement, not a founding date for the Mack Park fair.
What to Expect From the Next Indiana County Pennsylvania Fair Festival
How often is Indiana County Pennsylvania Fair Festival held?
Once a year, in the late-August window: preliminary harness racing and a judging day, then a full fair week.
When is the next Indiana County Pennsylvania Fair Festival?
The record behind this article publishes no 2027 span, so none is stated. The most recent documented edition is the 2026 fair, full week August 30 to September 5 behind racing on August 27 and 28 and judging on August 29.
Will the dates change?
They move within their window: the documented weeks opened on August 26 in 2023, August 24 in 2025 and August 28 in 2026. Expect a late-August week, confirmed against the fair’s own schedule each year.
Closing Note
Read this fair as its documents are written: layer by layer, year by year, the 2023 book kept in 2023 and the state of Indiana kept in Indiana. Where the record gives no founding year, no ride price and no modern camping rule, the gaps stay open on purpose.
