Wyandot County Ohio Fair Festival
Each September, trailers roll toward the fairgrounds on State Route 53 and barns fill with cattle, sheep and hogs for a Monday-to-Saturday week of judging and racing at the Wyandot County Fair. Upper Sandusky is both the county seat of Wyandot County and the town that hosts it, set on the Sandusky River. One confusion first: Upper Sandusky is not the Lake Erie city of Sandusky, which is a different place in a different county, and nothing about that city’s fair belongs in this week.

The fair frames 2026 with the theme “175th Anniversary – Where History Meets Hometown Tradition,” applied in the Junior Fair packet to parade floats, booth judging and flower beds, and its site description speaks of “Celebrating 175 Years.” That anniversary is printed here exactly as billed and no further: the older records beneath it point two ways.
The Society Behind the Week
The organiser, in every state layer gathered, is the Wyandot County Agricultural Society, a Chapter 1711 county agricultural society corporation. The fair homepage carries the Society’s statutory notice that its annual financial report has been filed under division (B) of section 1711.05.
The City of Upper Sandusky’s council record for the 2025 fair contracts with the “Wyandot County Senior Fair Board,” the Society’s board in its senior-fair working form; the fair’s social posts shorten the same body to “the Fair Board.” Neither wording creates a second organiser. The Junior Fair of the Extension packet and the Senior Fair machinery of the packet and tabloid layers are the youth and adult halves of one fair, never separate events.
Directors serve staggered three-year terms, elected by resident members paying an annual fee. Its board size shifts across the Auditor’s layers: twenty-one directors in the fiscal 2017 and fiscal 2022 reports, eighteen in 2007/08, twenty-four in 2005/06. The fair’s social layer posted its “2026 Election Results” on September 19, 2026, closing day. Ohio State University Extension in Wyandot County is the 4-H working partner behind the packet, never an organiser; the Junior Fair Board and the Junior Livestock Sale Committee are machinery in the audit notes and the packet; and the Auditor states expressly that the county is not financially accountable for the Society.
For a useful comparison, see the Wood County Ohio Fair Festival for another county festival.

Four Layers of History
This fair’s past arrives in four layers that do not reconcile. The Auditor’s fiscal 2017 and fiscal 2022 reports record the Society as founded in 1851 to operate an annual agricultural fair; its 2005/06, 2007/08, 2011/12 and 2013 reports record the same Society as founded in 1852. The two foundings conflict inside the Auditor’s own paperwork; neither may be chosen or averaged away.
The third layer predates every audit. An 1877 county directory records the Society organized on January 3, 1852, and a fair held that fall on the ground then occupied by the School House, at the corner of Fourth and Johnston Streets. In that account the fair moved the next fall to the southwest corner of town on the Kirby road, stayed until the fall of 1856, then moved to what the directory calls their present grounds, at the north end of Sandusky Avenue. It sides with the 1852 audit layers against the 1851 ones, and its “present grounds” are the grounds of 1877: no gathered layer equates that parcel with the present State Route 53 fairgrounds.
The fourth layer is the 2026 anniversary billing. Counted as elapsed years from the 1851 line, it agrees; counted from the 1852 layers, it steps differently; no layer explains the count. So this article prints no founding year, no first-fair year and no unbroken run — only a Society in conflicting state layers, an 1852 directory account, and a living September fair.
What to Expect at the Fairgrounds
Harness Racing in 2026
The racing bodies list this fair at Upper Sandusky for Tuesday, September 15 and Wednesday, September 16, 2026, both cards at 5 p.m., and the state schedule asterisks it for harness racing in 2024, 2025 and 2026 alike. A racing-news layer adds that the Spring Haven Farm Ladies Driving Series’ final leg was piloted here on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
The Anniversary Parade
The Extension packet’s 2026 machinery gives the week its ceremonial spine: a Grand Parade with floats built to the 175th Anniversary theme, the Junior Fair King and Queen, the wider Livestock Royalty machinery, and the Showman of Showmen contest in the packet’s guidelines.
Pig Scrambles and Calf Scrambles
The fair’s own 2026 form sets the Pig Scramble for Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. in the Horse Arena. Divisions run 5–6, 7–8, 9–10 and 11–12 years, plus an adult class at 18 and over; three pigs are released per youth class, two for the adults; the rest are auctioned afterwards; each winner chooses between the pig or cash. The 2024 tabloid’s calf scramble at the same arena is a different scramble in a different year, kept separate here just as the record keeps them.
The 2024 Tabloid Card
The fullest day-by-day card gathered is 2024’s, from the fair’s own schedule insert; everything here is that year’s. Its grandstand held pari-mutuel harness racing billed with “super stakes” wording, plus a further harness-racing card. Its Wednesday was Senior Citizens Day, with Masters Building activities and a veterans’ flag-raising in that layer. The county high school music show played the Masters Building, wine judging sat in the Culinary Building, venison stew and chili were served at the Wildlife Conservation Building, and the Upper Galaxy Twirlers and No Limits Baton performed outside the Masters Building. That “super stakes” phrase is 2024 tabloid wording only, never any later year’s racing name.
Livestock at the Centre of the Week
The week’s standing shape is showing: open-class and junior livestock across the barns and arena, domestic and culinary exhibits in their buildings. The 2024 tabloid’s junior run covers market lamb judging, beef breeding, beef feeder calf, and beef and dairy market steer and heifer judging at the arena, junior rabbit judging, and a back-to-farm sale for dairy and beef feeders. The 2026 packet continues with the junior shows and a Junior Fair Livestock Sale whose back-to-farm and base-bid feeder sale falls on release Sunday.

Planning Your Visit
A Monday-to-Saturday Week in September
In 2026, the fair’s own site and the state schedule agree on Monday, September 14 to Saturday, September 19, framed by the packet: projects and animals in place by 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 13, passes needed to enter on the Monday, release day on Sunday, September 20. The 2025 run was September 8 to 13 (state schedule; city council record), and 2024’s was September 9 to 14 (state schedule; the fair’s own tabloid). The Auditor’s generic September wording substitutes for none of them.
What the Gate Costs
The only documented general gate is 2024’s: the fair’s own tabloid priced general admission at eight dollars, and, on Senior Citizens Day, Wednesday, September 11, 2024, senior admission at three dollars for that day only, ages 62 and older. No 2025 or 2026 general-admission price appears in any gathered layer: the current homepage publishes dates and an address, no gate price, and the 2026 premium book’s price pages were not fetched. The recent gate is unverified; no season, membership or weekly pass price was fetched; ride, wristband, grandstand and parking prices are likewise unpublished, with no claim that parking is free.
Passes Belong to Exhibitors Here
The priced passes here are exhibitor money, not gate tickets. In the packet’s 2026 layer, every exhibitor must hold a pass: five dollars for Junior Fair exhibitors, fifteen dollars for a Youth Season Ticket covering Junior Fair exhibitors also showing in Senior Fair Open Classes, thirty dollars for advisors. The exhibitor pass costs five dollars by August 15 and fifteen dollars from August 16 to September 1, after which an exhibitor is no longer eligible to show. The Junior Open Class Pass is fifteen dollars before August 15. Cloverbud members under eight need no pass; an eight-year-old Cloverbud’s pass earns the club a one-dollar premium, premium money rather than admission. The packet’s ten-dollars-per-calf tagging and vaccination charge is a junior project charge; entries run through the fair’s own online entry systems named in the packet; the Pig Scramble’s entry money — twenty-five dollars for ages 5–12, fifty dollars for ages 18 and over, in the fair’s own 2026 form — is a competitor’s fee, never a spectator’s.
Camping, Without a Published Price
Campers were plainly part of the 2026 fair: its post-fair note of September 20, 2026 thanks the community, records that the fair would help people get their campers and other items back home as soon as weather permits, and thanks residents for offsite parking and shuttle help, in the same wet-weather note. That note proves occurrence and nothing more: no fair-side camping price, rule, site count or hookup term for fair week was fetched, so none is printed here. Any priced camping figure found for these grounds deserves hard checking: every priced camping document gathered under this title belonged to a different event. Confirm any stay with the fair office.
Getting to State Route 53

The grounds address, in the fair site’s footer long form, is 10171 State Route 53 North, Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351; one office phone, 419-294-4320, serves the fair’s three offices. The Junior Fair’s mailing form, Post Office Box 3, Upper Sandusky, on the packet letterhead, is a correspondence address, not the grounds. The fabric named across the layers includes the Grandstand, the Horse Arena, the Arena, the Masters Building, the Culinary Building, the Domestic Building, the Wildlife Conservation Building, the Junior Fair Booth Building, the FFA Building and the Scout Building. No fair-side acreage was fetched.
One Fair Day
A Tuesday built from the 2026 record shows how the week layers. Spend the morning among the junior livestock barns and the domestic and culinary buildings. Return to the grandstand for the 5 p.m. harness card, then walk to the Horse Arena for the 6:30 p.m. Pig Scramble and the auction of the remaining pigs.
Two Fairs Sharing One Grounds
The week resolves into two interlocking fairs. The Junior Fair is the youth engine: 4-H exhibitors, August pass deadlines, shows from rabbits to market steers, and a livestock sale outlasting the fair by a day. The Senior Fair is the open, adult frame: open classes juniors may also enter on the right pass, the 2024 card’s music show and senior citizens’ programming, and the Society’s board under its senior-fair name.

Beyond the Fairgrounds
Its courthouse, built in 1900 to designs by Joseph W. Yost and Frank L. Packard, stands at 109 South Sandusky Avenue in the courthouse record, still housing the county’s courts. Carey, Nevada and Sycamore appear in county layers as Wyandot County communities, and none hosts any part of the current fair. The fairgrounds also host rentals and community events in their own layers, none of it fair programme.
Why the Week Matters
The significance of this fair sits in its machinery as much as in any anniversary. A Society that elects its directors during fair week is a civic body working in public. A Junior Fair that prices a child’s first exhibitor pass at five dollars and starts its youngest in Cloverbud ranks begins exhibitors young and keeps them for decades. The parade floats, flower beds, high school musicians and veterans raising the flag are the hometown tradition the 2026 theme names.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where exactly is the Wyandot County Ohio Fair Festival held?
At the Wyandot County Fairgrounds, 10171 State Route 53 North, in Upper Sandusky, Ohio — the county seat, which hosts the fair itself.
How much will admission cost me?
The current figure is unpublished. The last documented general gate is 2024’s eight dollars in the fair’s own tabloid, with three-dollar senior admission on that year’s Senior Citizens Day. No 2025 or 2026 general, season pass or parking price appears in any fair-side layer fetched, so confirm at the gate.
Is there really harness racing at this fair?
Yes: cards at Upper Sandusky on Tuesday, September 15 and Wednesday, September 16, 2026, both at 5 p.m., and the state schedule asterisks this fair for harness racing in 2024, 2025 and 2026 alike.
Can I bring a camper for fair week?
Campers were part of the 2026 fair — its post-fair note thanks residents for offsite parking and shuttle help in a wet week — but no camping price, rule or hookup term for fair week is published in the record gathered, so arrange any stay with the fair office.
What to Expect From the Next Wyandot County Ohio Fair Festival
How often is Wyandot County Ohio Fair Festival held?
Once a year: the Auditor’s layers describe a week-long fair during September, and the dated state schedules carry it at Upper Sandusky in 2024, 2025 and 2026 in succession.
When is the next Wyandot County Ohio Fair Festival?
No 2027 dates appear in any layer gathered, so the next span is unverified here rather than guessed. Watch the fair’s own site and the state schedule for its next published span.
Will the dates change?
They already move within their month — September 9 to 14 in 2024, September 8 to 13 in 2025, September 14 to 19 in 2026 — so confirm each year’s span against the fair’s own announcements before travelling.
Split foundings, a billing fitting one layer and not the other, a gate price left open in the current years — and none of it needs resolving before the week gives back a September fair in its county seat, racing on two evenings, pigs scrambling in the horse arena, and a town that turns out to judge, sing, show and sell.
