Butler County Pennsylvania Big Butler Fair Festival

Butler County Pennsylvania Big Butler Fair Festival

The Big Butler Fair is Butler County’s big summer fair: nine days of livestock, harness racing, derbies, pulls, a carnival midway, fireworks and concerts, held always over the Fourth of July at Prospect. Its own pages bill it as Western Pennsylvania’s largest agricultural fair, under the billing line Always Over the Fourth, a slogan, not a name.

Butler County Pennsylvania Big Butler Fair Festival

The city of Butler is the county seat, called on the city’s own site the hub of government and commercial activity in the county, but it does not host this fair; the grounds stand in Prospect, at 1127 New Castle Road, Prospect, Pennsylvania 16052. The record prints the event two ways, Big Butler Fair and The Big Butler Fair, both unmerged here.

Who Runs the Fair at Prospect

The fair is organised by the Butler Fair & Agricultural Association, the form its press releases and About pages use; its About page calls the body a 501(c) nonprofit organisation whose fair is organized and operated entirely by dedicated volunteers. Two further forms stand unmerged in their layers: the 2021 premium book’s spelled-out Butler Fair and Agricultural Association and the Promoters page’s The Big Butler Fair Board of Directors.

Officers are persons in single releases only, Mike Roenigk as president in 2024 and Clint Cehily as vice president in 2025. The midway provider carries two unmerged forms, Powers & Thomas Midway Entertainment on the About page and Powers Great American Midways on the Promoters page, which credits it with all carnival rides and midway games; it never organises the fair. Shady Lady Studio Productions is the Promoters page’s entertainment production partner, and Extension, 4-H and FFA appear only as exhibitor-programme context.

A Beginning the Fair States Two Ways

No founding year can be printed as settled, because the fair’s own record argues with itself. Its current About page declares that since 1856 the fair has been Butler County’s premier agricultural celebration, from humble 1856 beginnings at Kearns Crossing, and the 2021 premium book backs that year in a notices header reading 1856, Butler Fair, 2021. Against those layers, the About blocks in the fair’s own 2024 and 2025 press releases state that the fair was founded in 1855, and a fair-supplied 2024 listing repeats the 1855 beginnings in Kearns Crossing. The origin place agrees; the year does not; the two stand unmerged.

For a useful comparison, see the Bucks County Pennsylvania Middletown Grange Fair Festival for another county festival.

The billings cannot settle it: entering its 168th year in 2024, its 169th in 2025, the 170th running in radio’s 2026 phrase and a 170th year celebrated in a 2026 listing are billing only, never to be subtracted into a founding year. The About page’s growth-every-year phrasing is rhetoric, not a documented continuous run.

What to Expect

The Standing Bill on the About Page

The About page carries an undated standing bill, the fair’s general bill rather than any single year’s programme: fair food from dozens of vendors, Fourth of July fireworks, demolition derbies and truck pulls, harness racing, the Fair Queen Pageant, a Bike Night, agricultural exhibits and livestock competitions, a petting zoo, chainsaw carving shows, clowns, family entertainment and daily camel rides.

The 2024 Grandstand, Day by Day

The fullest dated programme is the fair’s own 2024 press release, belonging to 2024 alone. Daily: Comedy Hypnotist Brad Matchett, Aim High Canines, Rannels Rustics Chainsaw Woodcarvings and a petting zoo. The grandstand ran Western Pennsylvania Tractor and Truck Pullers on June 28 and again, with fireworks at dusk, on July 4; the Bull Ride Mania Rodeo on June 29; a School Bus Demolition Derby on June 30; the Derbydog Demolition Derby on July 1; Derbydog Figure 8 Races on July 2; and Full Pull Productions pulls on July 3 and 5. It closed on July 6 with Bike Night and Froggy Fest, headlined by Sammy Kershaw with Michael Christopher and Christian Beck; the release made every attraction and grandstand show free with a general admission ticket.

The 2025 Programme in Its Own Release

The 2025 release prints a different bill, carried into no other year. Music: Tyler Farr, November Blue, Gary Burk III, Black Ridge and The Hawkeyes. Daily: Brad Matchett, Rock-N-Circus, Rannels Rustics Chainsaw Woodcarvings and a 4-H petting zoo. The grandstand opened on June 27 with Let Freedom Ring, alongside a first Bike Night, then ran the Bull Ride Mania Rodeo on June 28, the School Bus Demolition Derby on June 29, the Derbydog Demolition Derby on June 30, Derbydog Figure 8 Races on July 1 and CS Pulling Promotions truck pulls on July 2 and 3. The Fourth brought fireworks; July 5 closed with Tyler Farr, November Blue and The Eldorado Band plus a second Bike Night.

Fragments of the 2026 Edition

For 2026 the record holds fragments, not a full bill. The Concerts layer states that every concert is included with general admission, no separate concert ticket, and fixes the closing grandstand concert on July 11 at 6:45 p.m.: Larry Fleet headlining, with Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers and opener Danny Golden. Local radio adds opening-night pulls at 7 p.m. and a professional Fourth of July fireworks show. No earlier year’s act is carried into 2026.

The Fair Queen Element

The Fair Queen Pageant stands on the standing bill; the Fair Queen layer names the 2025 court, persons in that layer only, and carried a live 2026 application, deadline midnight on June 1, 2026, proving the element current.

Planning Your Visit

Dates, Edition by Edition

June 28 to July 6, 2024 stands in the fair’s own press release, June 27 to July 5, 2025 in its next, and July 3 to July 11, 2026 in the state fair guide and local radio, the tickets layer pricing a Bike Night on July 11, that edition’s late finish. The site header already bills July 2 to July 10, 2027. A content-farm guide re-dating 2025 to a July 4 opening is fabricated and unused here.

The Gate and What It Covers

The fair’s current tickets layer controls. Gate admission there costs nine dollars online, or ten dollars and ninety-nine cents with fees, is good any one day, and includes that day’s concerts and grandstand events; carnival rides are not included. Children six and under enter free any day; the gates take cash only, and cash machines stand on the grounds. Two cautions fence the figures: the page already carries the 2027 edition in its header while dating its Bike Night to July 11, a mismatch recorded rather than resolved, so the prices attach to that page, not to one edition year; and no senior, military or group discount is published in its current layers.

Other layers keep their own figures, unmerged: radio’s 2026 reporting has nine dollars online or eight to ten dollars at the gate, cash only, depending on the time, children six and under free; 2024 family-press layers have nine dollars; a 2024 listing form prints ten dollars, standing alone and irreconciled.

Ride Bands, Parking and Bike Night

Butler County Pennsylvania Big Butler Fair Festival

The all-day ride band is separate money: thirty-two dollars in the current tickets layer, or thirty-six dollars and one cent with fees, good any one day, fair admission expressly excluded. The 2024 family-press layers price it at thirty dollars, one form covering children six and under too; the 2024 listing form says thirty-five dollars. The 2025 release mentions a discount for buying bands before June 27 without naming an amount, so no 2025 band price is documented.

General parking is free: the tickets and directions layers price the East Gate, West Gate and Main Gate lots as free, accessible parking at each for a valid placard, and 2026 radio agrees. Bike Night track parking is a different product: five dollars in the current tickets layer, or six dollars and eighty-six cents with fees, motorcycles only through the West Gate, parked on the track for the Bike Night dated July 11; the 2024 listing form and the directions layer also price it at five dollars, the latter per bike.

Entries, Premiums and Camping

Exhibitors work to the fair’s paperwork: the 2026 livestock entry form sets a June 1 entry deadline and the mechanics for assuring that premiums are paid, but publishes no premium scale in the layer extracted, so the scale is unverified and no figure from another fair’s book may stand in for it. Entries are mailed to Box 517, Prospect, Pennsylvania 16052, checks payable to the Butler Fair; that box is a mailing form in that document, never the grounds’ street address. Sponsorship and vendor fees are likewise unpublished.

Camping is the record’s plainest gap: no public, exhibitor or vendor camping rate, rule or offer appears in any fair-side layer, About, Tickets, Directions, FAQ, entry forms, premium book or releases. The silence is an absence, camping neither claimed as prohibited nor as available. An RV-rental company’s guide asserts the grounds can host an RV comfortably, but that is marketing in its own layer, without rate, rule or fair-side confirmation.

A Sample Fair Day

Start in the livestock barns and exhibit halls, the standing bill’s core, then take in harness racing and the petting zoo. Chainsaw carving fills the early afternoon while the ride band earns its keep. Save the grandstand for evening, when the bills place their derbies, pulls and rodeo, and on the Fourth expect fireworks to close. The acts change completely between editions, so match the day to your own year’s programme.

Not the Other Butler County Fairs

None of the national name collisions belongs here. Ohio’s Butler County Fair at Hamilton, run by that state’s Butler County Agricultural Society, keeps its July fair, fair book, camper-space assignments and junior-fair wristbands as Ohio documents. Iowa’s fair at Allison and Kansas’s at El Dorado are separate fairs, as are Nebraska’s and every other state’s.

A nearer confusion sits inside the county: the Butler Farm Show is a different event, listed separately in the state guide for August 10 to 15 at its own grounds in Connoquenessing Township, its dates, grounds and programme never this fair’s. The Prospect grounds also host separate events, the Big Butler Parts-A-Rama and a holiday light show among them. The fair’s releases mislead too, datelined from Butler; a dateline is not a host town, and resale pages addressing the grounds to a Butler 16001 postcode are excluded.

Checklist

  • Confirm your edition’s exact span; documented starts fall in late June and as late as July 3 in 2026
  • Bring cash: the entrance gates take cash only, and cash machines stand on the grounds
  • Budget gate and ride band separately; admission covers concerts and grandstand events, never rides
  • Expect free general parking at the East Gate, West Gate and Main Gate lots
  • Treat Bike Night track parking as its own per-motorcycle purchase, not general parking
  • Enter livestock by the June 1 deadline in the 2026 entry form, mailed to the Prospect box it prints
  • Check your own year’s programme before promising anyone a particular act, derby or pull
  • Arrange lodging off the grounds; no camping term for this fair is published
  • Navigate to Prospect, not the city of Butler, whatever the release datelines say

Beyond the Fairgrounds

Prospect is a small borough whose largest annual occasion, by the fair’s own billing, is this fair; its borough offices are separate institutions from the fair office taking entries through a Prospect mailing box. County business runs to the city of Butler, the seat. Secondary layers describe Cranberry Township as the county’s largest township, in a different corner of the county from the fairground.

Why This Fair Holds Its Ground

Volunteers run the fair entirely, through a nonprofit association, making nine days at this scale a community achievement rather than a commercial production. Its calendar place is fixed, nine days always over the Fourth of July, and its gate folds concerts and grandstand events into a day’s admission, charging separately only for the midway. Its age, argued over as 1855 or 1856 in its own print, supports its billing among Pennsylvania’s oldest agricultural fairs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the fair held in the city of Butler?

No: Butler city is the county seat but does not host the fair, whose grounds stand in Prospect at 1127 New Castle Road. Its releases are datelined from Butler, but its address, directions and tickets layers give Prospect.

Does one gate ticket cover the concerts?

Yes, in the current tickets layer: a day’s admission includes that day’s concerts and grandstand events, and the 2026 Concerts layer states the same model, no separate concert ticket. The midway is never included; it is priced through the ride band.

What does it cost to park?

Nothing: the tickets and directions layers price the East, West and Main Gate lots as free, with accessible parking at each for a valid placard, and 2026 radio agrees. The record’s only parking money is Bike Night track parking, in its own layers.

How old is the Big Butler Fair?

The record gives two answers: the About page and 2021 premium book say 1856, beginnings at Kearns Crossing; the 2024 and 2025 releases say 1855. The billings cannot be subtracted into a founding year.

What to Expect From the Next Butler County Pennsylvania Big Butler Fair Festival

How often is Butler County Pennsylvania Big Butler Fair Festival held?

Once a year, across nine days always taking in the Fourth of July: June 28 to July 6 in 2024, June 27 to July 5 in 2025, July 3 to July 11 in 2026, with a further edition billed for 2027.

When is the next Butler County Pennsylvania Big Butler Fair Festival?

The fair’s own site header bills the next edition for July 2 to July 10, 2027, rewriting none of the earlier editions’ spans.

Will the dates change?

The dates move: starts fall on June 28 in 2024, June 27 in 2025 and July 3 in 2026, with 2027 billed to open on July 2. The anchor does not: nine days always over the Fourth of July, the span shifting a few days around the fixed holiday.

The Big Butler Fair remains what its record shows: a volunteer-run fair of unusual scale in Prospect, generous with its grandstand, stubborn about its holiday, and cheerfully unresolved about the year it began.
