Cuyahoga County Ohio Fair Festival

Cuyahoga County Ohio Fair Festival

Ohio’s most urban county still keeps a working agricultural fair, yet it does not stage that week in its county seat. The Cuyahoga County Fair unfolds in August at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds in Berea, where departments, youth livestock, harness racing and a midway share six crowded days.

Cuyahoga County Ohio Fair Festival

Cleveland is the county seat of Cuyahoga County, Ohio, while Berea hosts the fair itself, and keeping those two jobs apart is the first thing a visitor should understand.

A Premium-Book Fair Run From Berea

The working name in schedules and releases is Cuyahoga County Fair. Premium-book covers give a fuller styling, CUYAHOGA COUNTY FAIR And Exposition, belonging to those covers rather than replacing the shorter name.

Behind the week stands the Cuyahoga County Agricultural Society, named exactly that way on both recent premium books. Its working layers use other labels in specific places: Directors-At-Large in governance pages, Cuyahoga County Fairboard as one word in legal passages, Cuyahoga County Fair Board in a 2026 release passage, and Fair Board Office for the office visitors contact, none of them stitched into a combined organiser name.

The Junior Fair organisation, extension educators, county executive and council figures, the state agriculture department and the midway contractor each support a piece of the operation, but no gathered layer hands any of them the Society’s organiser role.

For a useful comparison, see the Crawford County Ohio Fair Festival for another county festival.

The officers printed for 2026 belong only to that year’s book: Carl Cooley as president, Larry Theurer as vice-president, Joanne Scudder as secretary and Gail Royak-Wind as treasurer, while a separate web layer shortens the treasurer’s surname to Gail Wind, so both forms remain in their own layers.

History

Ancestry That Starts on a Cleveland Square

A history outline in the 2026 premium book begins with an 1829 fair on Public Square, where silk worm production was featured. An encyclopedia layer agrees on that 1829 fair and adds a separate date, saying the Society was established in 1823.

That 1823 date therefore describes the Society inside the encyclopedia layer, not the founding of a fair in Berea. The 1829 gathering belongs to Cleveland in those layers and works as ancestry, never as a present-day venue or proof of an unbroken run.

Rival Grounds and a Move That Has Three Dates

During the eighteen hundreds the outline moves county fairs toward the Kinsman Road area and then Glenville, while an encyclopedia layer also recalls Newburgh. Later that century three fairs operated at once, centred on Chagrin Falls, Dover Center and Berea, the last appearing under a Western Cuyahoga County Agricultural Society form.

Better transport favoured Berea, the Chagrin Falls fair ceased in 1928, and a marker states that by then Berea hosted the county’s only fair.

When the Berea chapter began is where the record refuses to agree. One encyclopedia layer places establishment at the Eastland Road site in 1893, a Berea layer says the fairground moved permanently there in 1894, and the marker says the fair, first known as the West Cuyahoga County Fair, has been held at this site since 1895. Those years stay unmerged, and the marker’s West Cuyahoga name is a historic styling, not a modern book name.

Interruptions, an Arch and a Very Large Piece of Billing

Continuity is more complicated than one anniversary number suggests. The outline records a suspension in 1932, cancellation in the war years 1942 and 1943, and another cancellation in 2020, while the encyclopedia describes nineteenth-century operation as not continuous.

The outline also remembers Berea as the first fairgrounds to gain permanent outdoor lights in 1914, and dates an ornamental ironwork arch at Gate 1 to 1925, calling it a triumphal arch.

Its celebration of over 193 years counting all county fairs, alongside 127 years at the present location, is the book’s billing about a county-wide lineage. It is not a founding date or a surveyed age for the Berea grounds.

Edition numbers behave the same way. Books and releases bill 2015 as the 119th Annual, 2022 as the 125th Annual, 2025 as the 128th Year and 2026 as the 129th Year or 129th Annual, each label attached to its own year without being converted backwards into a beginning.

What to Expect

A Tuesday That Opens With a Parade and Ends at the Track

An opening-day parade steps off at Gate 5 at five in the evening and finishes at the Olde Barn Pavilion for the opening ceremony. Tuesday also carries harness racing, with an afternoon card at four, pari-mutuel betting and handicapping colour in the 2026 release, plus a kiddie pedal tractor pull with early-afternoon registration.

Grandstand Power Spread Across the Week

Wednesday evening belongs to draft power, with a pull at seven and separate draft horse and pony hitch classes elsewhere in the bill. Sunday brings a single demolition derby, its ticketing handled below as component money, and the closing weekend adds Fair Nights, Enchanted Lights, a firework and drone experience at ten on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

A Midway in Its Second Documented Year

For 2026 the midway contractor is Prime Time Carnival Company, returning for a second year, with a Hurricane roller coaster, a hundred-foot drop attraction and a new Kamikaze ride named Mantis. Named entertainment in that release includes Brian Brenner with Elvis is Back in the Building, Jungle Bob, Buford Bear, the SupaFun Band, a Saturday-morning Family Dance Party, stilt walkers and a senior-citizen shuttle.

That layer also lists beekeeping exhibits with honey extraction, a milking cow, a model railroad display, Sunday dog shows and a Saturday horse show.

Departments and Youth Work Fill the Buildings

The 2026 departments run wide: arts and crafts, art work, photography, antiques, homemade wine and beer, culinary work and canning, a hobby show, canine display, bees and honey, floral entries with a dahlia show, garden produce and a community garden competition. Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts sit alongside the Junior Fair department and 4-H clubs, a floral building hosts the dahlias, Building 27 holds arts and crafts, and a cow palace setting hosts a 4-H animal meet and greet.

The release documents a Junior Fair bake-off auction, a livestock auction, youth showcases and a hunger drive built around stocking a trailer.

Planning Your Visit

Addresses That Must Stay in Their Own Towns

Flattening this fair’s addresses produces bad directions. The Society’s mailing address is Post Office Box 135, Berea, Ohio 44017, and Gate 1 stands at 164 Eastland Road, Berea, Ohio 44017 on the book covers.

Both recent books place the main parking area at 19201 East Bagley Road, Middleburg Heights, Ohio 44130, and the 2026 release calls Gate 5 the main entrance off Bagley Road while placing Gates 2 and 3 off Eastland Road. The 2015 and 2022 releases printed that Bagley Road address as being in Berea, whereas the 2026 release places it in Middleburg Heights, so each wording stays with its release.

Hours and Dates, Year by Year

In 2026 the six days ran Tuesday, August 11 through Sunday, August 16, with hours of noon to eleven Tuesday through Friday, ten to eleven Saturday and noon to ten Sunday. Earlier runs keep their own shapes: 2025 ran August 5 through August 10, 2022 ran August 9 through August 14, and 2015 ran August 10 through August 16 with a Monday opening unlike the later pattern.

The Complete 2026 Gate Ladder, in Its Own Year

Parking cost nothing on any day in the 2026 book and release, and gate admission was free any day for children aged two and under and active military showing valid identification.

Any-day admission sold online for eight dollars during June 2026 and nine dollars during July 2026. Across Tuesday to Thursday, admission cost ten dollars online or twelve dollars in person, while Friday to Sunday cost twelve dollars online or fourteen dollars in person, so no single figure stands for the whole week.

Opening Tuesday carried a discount day: veterans, first responders, seniors aged sixty and over and children twelve and under paid five dollars in person, while general admission remained twelve dollars and online stood at ten. Gates 2, 3 and 5 operated cashless in that release, with cash-to-card kiosks for visitors carrying cash.

What the Gate Never Included in 2026

A 2026 gate ticket bought entry alone, because book and release separate admission from rides, games, food and the derby. Wristbands cost twenty-five dollars Tuesday through Thursday and thirty dollars Friday through Sunday.

Derby seating was separate money, at fifteen dollars general and twenty-five dollars preferred in the 2026 book, for one Sunday show on August 16, 2026, sold online only from July 4.

Other figures are not gate prices. Society membership cost twenty-five dollars for county residents, an exhibitor credential cost ten or fifteen dollars by deadline, and a horse-show exhibitor ticket cost fifteen dollars in its layer.

Earlier Ladders That Prove Prices Move

The 2025 book is simpler and different. Tuesday cost ten dollars generally, with children twelve and under, seniors and veterans at five dollars, Wednesday and Thursday stayed at ten, Friday through Sunday rose to twelve, and parking was free with free entry for children two and under and active military. Its Party Pass cost twenty dollars, worked Thursday to Saturday only from five in the evening for the same person, and belongs entirely to 2025.

In 2022 almost every detail shifts. General admission was ten dollars all week, presale cost seven dollars before July 15, nine dollars from July 16 through August 8 and ten dollars during fair week, Tuesday discounts dropped veterans, senior citizens and children seventeen and under to two dollars on site, and free entry covered active military plus children aged three and under.

Camping by Reservation, Priced Separately Each Year

Both recent books describe camper and motorhome parking for fair week only and by reservation only, never a public campground or nightly booking. For 2026 the tiers were one hundred ninety-five dollars for electric only, two hundred twenty-five dollars for water and electric, and three hundred dollars for water, electric and sewer, while 2025 charged one hundred eighty-five, two hundred ten and two hundred sixty dollars for the same levels.

A 2011 federal inventory counted thirty-three buildings across one hundred seventeen acres at Berea, a historical scale from 2011 rather than a fresh survey. The book outline also says the Cuyahoga County Council holds the deed while the state empowers the Society to operate the grounds provided an annual county fair is held, reported here as that book’s tenure statement.

A First Visit, Hour by Hour

Arrive through the Bagley Road main entrance on Tuesday, watch the pedal pull, then reach the track before the four o’clock harness card and stay for the parade into the pavilion ceremony. Use Wednesday for department buildings and the evening draft pull, return Friday for produce, flowers and the lights show, and save Sunday for dog shows and the derby, which needs its own ticket.

How This Week Compares With a Rural County Fair

A rural fair often spreads around one town’s identity, whereas this one draws a dense metropolitan county yet judges dahlias, honey, canning and wine with county-fair seriousness. Its split geography also surprises newcomers, because gates sit in Berea while the main parking entrance is published in Middleburg Heights.

Fair Week Checklist

  • Decide which address your trip actually needs, the Eastland Road gate side or the Bagley Road parking side
  • Buy the online tier early if a June or July presale window is offered for your chosen year
  • Carry a payment card for the cashless gates described in the 2026 release, rather than assuming cash will work everywhere
  • Budget rides separately from admission, since the 2026 documents exclude midway privileges from the gate price
  • Treat the demolition derby as a second ticket decision with its own sale date and seating levels
  • Reserve a camper space well ahead instead of expecting a public campground desk during fair week
  • Check which free-child age applies to the year you attend, because documented ladders have used both two and three
  • Give department buildings a morning before the grandstand pulls you outdoors
  • Add one Junior Fair auction to the plan, not only rides and night shows

Beyond the Fairgrounds

Berea gives fairgoers a smaller-city base around the Eastland Road gates, with the Society reachable through its Berea post office box all year. Middleburg Heights plays a practical part because the main parking area and entrance are published on East Bagley Road there, even though the fair itself is a Berea event.

Why an Urban County Keeps Judging Pumpkins and Honey

This fair matters because it asks a largely suburban and city population to keep producing the exhibits county fairs were built to judge. A teenager can auction a baked entry, a gardener can defend a dahlia and a beekeeper can demonstrate extraction during the same week thousands arrive mainly for rides, keeping agricultural skill visible rather than nostalgic.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this fair held in Cleveland?

No. Cleveland is documented as the county seat, while state schedules and fair-side layers place the fair in Berea, with its main parking entrance published in Middleburg Heights.

Which price should a visitor quote for admission?

Quote only the ladder for the year being discussed. For 2026 that means ten or twelve dollars Tuesday through Thursday by buying method, and twelve or fourteen dollars Friday through Sunday, before presale, discount and free categories change individual answers.

Are rides and the demolition derby part of the gate price?

Not in the 2026 documents. Those layers state that gate prices exclude midway rides and games, food concessions and the derby, with wristbands and derby seating sold as separate purchases that year.

Can anyone simply drive in and camp for a night?

No nightly public camping offer appears in the gathered layers. The books describe fair-week camper parking by reservation only, priced by hookup level for that year.
