Montour County Pennsylvania Montour-Delong Community Fair Festival

Montour County Pennsylvania Montour-Delong Community Fair Festival

In the last week of July, a small fairground west of Danville fills with livestock judging, school exhibits, tractor pulls and evening music, and the gathering still describes itself first as an educational event. The queue title points at the Montour-DeLong Community Fair, a combined school and community fair in Montour County, Pennsylvania, run by volunteers and built around the county’s young exhibitors. Montour is Pennsylvania’s smallest county by land area, but the fair’s essential facts are complete and fenced by year.

About the Montour-DeLong Community Fair

The fair states its purpose plainly: to improve the quality of agriculture and home products of the community, to educate, to entertain, and to enrich visitors and their families. It calls itself a non-profit volunteer-powered organization and a combined school and community event: school and club exhibits stand beside livestock judging, and a junior fair board works inside the fair.

The name needs care: the record prints it in several forms, none to be silently corrected into another. The site header reads Montour-Delong Community Fair, while its body text and premium book use The Montour DeLong Community Fair without a hyphen. The state agriculture guide shortens it to Montour-Delong Fair, matching the queue title exactly, while the fair’s own dominant spelling keeps a capital letter in DeLong.

The grounds carry a Danville postal address in the Valley Township area west of Danville. The fair’s own published form, repeated in every fair-side footer from 2024 through 2026, is 5848 Broadway Road, Danville, Pennsylvania 17821. That is the documented current fact: the record does not support calling the fair a Washingtonville borough event, nor a downtown Danville event. Washingtonville is its mailing town and historic home, not its current site.

History

The fair’s own site heads its pages with the words Est. 1935, and the nonprofit record agrees in its own layer, giving the association’s year formed as 1935. This article records both without merging them into a claim of an unbroken run ever since: no layer documents a year-by-year unbroken run, and no layer documents a cancellation year either. A visitors bureau layer offers only an approximation, saying the fair has held true to its goals since the late 1930s.

For a useful comparison, see the Montgomery County Pennsylvania Fair Festival for another county festival.

The first fair looked nothing like the July gathering of today. The first Montour Delong Fair was held at the DeLong Memorial School in 1935, dated precisely in that layer’s timeline as October 24 to 26, at the DeLong Memorial School: an autumn fair at a school, not a summer fair at the present Broadway Road grounds. The DeLong name comes from the Washingtonville memorial history: after the Jane E. DeLong Memorial Community Hall dedication at Washingtonville, the community, through the influence of Frank E. DeLong, organized the Montour-DeLong Community Fair Association. That 1941 court recital layer explains the name and the Washingtonville mailing identity, not the present fairgrounds’ location.

An older county fair history sits behind this one and must not be folded into it. The same local history layer documents a Montour County Agricultural Society organised on February 18, 1856, a Montour County Fair at Washingtonville in 1858, fairs at Danville from 1859 and 1860, and a Montour County Agricultural Fair in Danville through 1899, when its association folded in 1900, followed later by a Northern Montour Agricultural Society at Washingtonville. Those are nineteenth-century predecessors, not earlier editions of this fair, and no continuous line runs from them to 1935 or to today.

Danville is the county seat, verified independently of the fair from the Pennsylvania State Archives table, which gives Montour County as created on May 3, 1850 from part of Columbia County. A state museum commission layer adds that Danville was laid out in 1792 and had been Columbia County’s seat from 1813 to 1846.

What to Expect

A School and Community Fair First

Exhibits, not rides, sit at the centre of this fair’s character. Judging runs through the 2026 week: dairy goats and a master exhibitor contest on Monday, dairy fitting and market livestock judging on Tuesday, market and breeding lambs and goats on Wednesday, dairy cattle judging and a showmanship contest for invited exhibitors on Thursday, and presentations and public speaking contests on Friday. The junior fair board’s scholarship and the livestock scholarship supported by the Old Timers Show underline the point: young people are exhibitors here, not decoration. Four-H exhibits are limited to Montour, Columbia and Northumberland Counties.

The 2026 Week, Day by Day

The 2026 fair week runs Monday, July 27 through Saturday, August 1, 2026, preceded by a 4-H Roundup on Saturday, July 25, and livestock entry, weigh-in and a Vesper Service on Sunday, July 26. Those opening events belong to the opening weekend, not to fair week. Monday adds exhibit entry, a livestock fitting competition, a rabbit show, old fashioned contests and baked-goods judging, with Hot Stock, Pro Stock, Super Stock and Classic tractor pulls and the Pepper Street Band. Tuesday brings exhibit judging, a dairy fitting contest, judging of market steers and heifers, dairy beef and breeding beef, a cake and pie auction for the Sheriff’s Department, truck pulls and Drive. Wednesday offers judging of market and breeding lambs and goats, a 4-H poultry judging demonstration, lawn stock garden tractor pulls and the Mack Berry Band. Thursday pairs dairy cattle judging with a showmanship contest, farm tractor pulls, a kiddie pedal pull and the Moore Brothers. Friday combines presentations and public speaking, a supreme showmanship contest, farm tractor pulls, an Old Timers Show for the livestock scholarship, and Julia Neville. Saturday closes with tractor driving, a car show, stock farm tractors, a hot dog eating contest, a mini horse pull in four height classes, The Junction PA at midday and Isaac Cole in the evening.

Earlier Editions, Kept in Their Years

The 2025 edition ran from July 21 to 26, 2025, on the fair’s own fair-book contract layer, and its documented programme is narrower than 2026’s. Its tractor and four-wheel vehicle pull rules were updated for 2025, and its Department 22 contests included a kiddie pedal-powered tractor pull on Thursday at half past five in the arena and old fashioned contests on Monday: an egg relay, a broom race, hog calling, a bale toss, corn shelling, and team wheelbarrow, bag and bale events. Exhibits were pre-entered by July 15. No entertainment names were retrieved from a fair-side layer for 2025, so none are printed for that year.

The 2024 edition ran from July 22 to 27, 2024, with a 4-H Round-Up on July 20 and a Vesper Service on Sunday, July 21. Its brochure names Andrews Christian Church for the Vesper Service, Adam and the Armodillos on Monday, a cake and pie auction with Jake and Friendz on Tuesday, Strawbridge on Wednesday and Julia Neville on Thursday. Julia Neville therefore appears in both the 2024 and the 2026 layers: two separate documented appearances, not a standing booking. Earlier third-party list layers from around 2023 gave August dates for this fair, including an August 8 to 13 span in Danville.

Planning Your Visit

Dates and the Opening Weekend

Plan around the programme as documented, not around a single start date. For 2026, the opening weekend of July 25 and 26 precedes the July 27 to August 1 fair week. For 2025 the documented span is July 21 to 26, and for 2024 it is July 22 to 27. The fair’s own record gives no dates beyond 2026, so a future visit depends on its next announcement.

Admission, Meals and Other Money

Admission is the thinnest part of this fair’s record. The fair-side brochure for 2024 prints free admission and free entertainment, and that statement belongs to 2024 alone. The fair-side homepage and programme layers retrieved for 2026 publish no admission statement at all, so 2026 admission is unverified, and the 2024 term is never carried forward as a current fact.

Other prices are documented, each in its own layer. Fair meals in 2026 cost eighteen dollars per platter each day from Monday through Saturday: meatloaf, ham loaf, lasagna, roast beef, fish and macaroni and cheese, and chicken barbecue. Those are meal prices, never admission. An exhibitor entry form from 2021 sets a flat fee of two dollars per person, not per entry, for Departments 8, 12 to 19 and 23, with Departments 10 and 11 free: an exhibitor fee in that year’s form, not gate admission, never dated to another year.

Parking, Camping and Getting There

Montour County Pennsylvania Montour-Delong Community Fair Festival

Parking is one of the few visitor prices documented in two matching layers. The fair-side homepage for 2026 states that parking costs five dollars, or twenty dollars for a weekly pass, with an advanced parking form linked. The 2024 brochure gives the same pairing. No separate 2025 parking layer was retrieved, so no 2025 figure is interpolated here. Camping is different: no fair-side camping term, campsite, hookup or overnight provision exists in any layer retrieved, so camping at this fair is unverified entire. Camp Victory, named in the 2024 brochure only as a beneficiary of a Vesper Service offering alongside the K-9 Unit, is a separate organization, not fair camping.

From Route 54, take Route 254 west for one mile to the fairgrounds. Mail for the association goes to Post Office Box 11, Washingtonville, Pennsylvania 17884, never a second grounds address.

A Sample Day at the Fair

Take Wednesday of the 2026 week as a model day: lamb and goat judging in the morning, the 4-H poultry judging demonstration, exhibits in the afternoon, lawn stock garden tractor pulls, a fair meal platter, then the Mack Berry Band.

How It Compares

The nearest large fair is a different event entirely. The Bloomsburg Fair in Columbia County is a separate fair, and none of its dates, scale, vendors or entertainment belongs in an account of this fair, even though the two share visitors bureau coverage for the Columbia and Montour area. The Northumberland County Fair, the Lycoming County Fair and the Union County West End Fair are likewise separate events, and nothing transfers between them and this fair in either direction. The nineteenth-century predecessor fairs ended long before this fair’s 1935 beginning.

Visitor Checklist

  • Check the current year’s announcement before travelling: 2026 admission is unverified, and the 2024 free-admission position must not be assumed
  • Arrive for the opening weekend for the round-up and Vesper Service
  • Budget five dollars for parking, or twenty dollars for a weekly pass, on the 2026 layer
  • Budget eighteen dollars per fair meal platter; meal prices are not admission
  • Do not plan on camping: no fair-side camping terms are published
  • Give the exhibits and judging a full morning
  • Keep each year’s acts in their own year

Beyond the Fairgrounds

Danville, the county seat, lies east of the fairgrounds, and the fair’s Valley Township setting keeps it a short drive from the town without placing it downtown. Washingtonville, the mailing town, preserves the fair’s historic home, while the Broadway Road fairgrounds carry the current event.

Why This Fair Matters

This fair matters because it has stayed small, educational and volunteer-powered while keeping its own history straight. It does not pretend to be a state-listed agricultural show, nor borrow the scale of its Columbia County neighbour. Its stated aims describe a fair where a cake and pie auction can support a sheriff’s department, where a Vesper Service can support a K-9 unit, and where a livestock scholarship can grow out of an Old Timers Show.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the Montour-DeLong Community Fair held?

The fairgrounds are at 5848 Broadway Road, Danville, Pennsylvania 17821, in the Valley Township area west of Danville. The association’s mailing address is Post Office Box 11, Washingtonville, Pennsylvania 17884, never the grounds. The fair is not held in Washingtonville borough, nor in downtown Danville.

How much does admission cost?

That depends on the year, and only one year is documented here. The 2024 fair-side brochure prints free admission and free entertainment for 2024 alone. The 2026 homepage and programme layers publish no admission statement, so 2026 admission is unverified, and the 2024 position must not be carried forward as a current fact. Fair meals in 2026 cost eighteen dollars per platter: a meal price, not admission.

Is parking available, and can visitors camp at the fair?

Parking is documented in the 2026 layer at five dollars, or twenty dollars for a weekly pass, and the same pairing appears in the 2024 brochure. Camping is different: no fair-side camping term, campsite, hookup or overnight provision exists in any layer retrieved, so camping at this fair is unverified entire. Camp Victory is a separate organization, not fair camping.

Who runs the fair?

The organiser in the fair-side form is the Montour DeLong Community Fair Association, with other published forms standing in their own layers. The Montour DeLong Jr Fair Board works inside the fair and is not the organiser. Four-H and Future Farmers of America chapters exhibit at the fair; neither is the organiser. Officer names differ between layers, and neither set is presented here as current beyond its layer.

What to Expect From the Next Montour County Pennsylvania Montour-Delong Community Fair Festival

How often is Montour County Pennsylvania Montour-Delong Community Fair Festival held?

The fair is an annual summer event, documented in late July in 2024, 2025 and 2026. Earlier third-party list layers show August dates in other years, so the late-July pattern of the recent editions is a pattern of those years, not a timeless rule.

When is the next Montour County Pennsylvania Montour-Delong Community Fair Festival?

No span beyond the 2026 edition appears in the layers retrieved, so no future dates are stated here. The documented pattern points to a late-July week with an opening weekend before it, and the fair’s own next announcement will govern.

Will the dates change?

The recent editions have all sat in late July, but the record shows movement: the 2024 span ran July 22 to 27, the 2025 span July 21 to 26, and the 2026 fair week July 27 to August 1, while older list layers gave August dates. The current year’s listing governs.

This is a fair that knows its size and its purpose: a volunteer-powered school and community fair in Pennsylvania’s smallest county, first held at a memorial school in October 1935, now filling a Broadway Road fairground each late July.
